Credit Cards
are associated with a revolving line of credit.
Debit Cards are connected to a checking or savings account.
Charge Cards need to be paid off in full at the end of each billing cycle.

Visa Card
VISA Debit and Credit Cards are issued through banks and other financial institutions. With the exception of certain specialty cards such as Health Benefits Cards and Purchasing Cards, any card bearing the VISA Logo can be accepted as payment at any business that has a merchant account.
 
MasterCard
MasterCard Debit and Credit Cards are issued through banks and other financial institutions. With the exception of certain specialty cards such as Health Benefits Cards and Purchasing Cards, any card bearing the MasterCard Logo can be accepted as a form of payment at any business that has a merchant account.
 

Discover
Network

Discover issues Credit Cards directly to card holders as well as through banks and other financial institutions. Any card bearing the Discover Logo can be accepted as a form of payment at any business that has a merchant account.
 
American
Express
American Express issues Charge, Credit and Prepaid Cards directly to card holders. Merchants must sign up for American Express before they will be able to take any card with the American Express Logo.

   Specialty Cards

Specialty cards are those issued by organizations other than the major card brands.

JCB Card
JCB Cards are issued in Japan and are used extensively by tourists and business travelers in the US. JCB stands for Japan Credit Bureau. JCB entered into an agreement with Discover allowing all US merchants that can accept Discover Cards to also be able to accept JCB Cards without the need to open a separate account with JCB. We activate JCB Cards on all of our merchant accounts.
 
Diners Club Card
Diners Club Cards were one of the first cards ever used in the US back in 1950. Diners Club is now part of Discover but still carries its own brand name. Diners Club Cards can be used at all merchant locations that can accept Discover Cards. We activate Diners Club Cards on all of our merchant accounts.
 
PayPal Card
PayPal Cards come in several varieties. Most of their debit and credit cards have the MasterCard logo on it and can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. Some of their newer cards have only the PayPal logo on them. PayPal entered into an agreement with Discover allowing merchants to accept true PayPal branded cards so long as they can accept Discover. We activate PayPal Cards on all of our merchant accounts.
 
UnionPay Card
UnionPay Cards are issued in China and may be used by tourists and business travelers in the US. Only businesses located in major US cities should consider being setup to accept UnionPay Cards. UnionPay acceptance is a special service that should be requested before opening your merchant account as it requires special handling.
 
EBT Cards
Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) are government benefit cards issued by each state under the federal SNAP program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aka food stamps) or state WIC program (Women, Infants & Children). These cards enable cardholders to purchase qualifying products from approved retailers. Retailers must register for a FNS Number (Food & Nutrition Service) with the state or USDA.

   Health Benefit Cards


FSA, HRA and HSA Cards can be accepted by medical and dental offices, prescription eye wear stores, imaging, blood work labs and pharmacies. Although these cards bear the Visa or MasterCard logos, the ability to accept them must be requested.

FSA
An FSA Card is a special type of debit card available through employers that offer health insurance. Employees can elect to make contributions exempt from federal income tax that can be used for office visit co-pays, prescriptions and other medical and dental expenses.
 
HRA
An HRA Card is a special type of debit card available through employers that offer high-deductible health plans (HDHP). The employer contributes funds to the account to help offset a share of the high deductible to reduce an employee’s financial exposure. Funds can be used for office visit co-pays, prescriptions and other medical and dental expenses.
 
HSA
An HSA Card is a special type of debit card providing access to a medical savings account which is available to taxpayers who are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). The funds contributed to an account are not subject to federal income tax.

   Fleet Cards

Fleet cards are used by businesses that manage and control the costs associated with operating and maintaining a commercial fleet of vehicles or trucks.

Wright's Express
Card
The WEX Card is primarily used for fuel. Like the Voyager card, it too operates on its own network. Merchants that sell fuel must request this service before they can be accepted for payment.

Voyager
The Voyager Fleet Card operates on its own private network. These cards are not issued by the major card brands. Merchants that sell fuel and / or offer vehicle repair services must request this service before they can be accepted for payment.

   Other Services

The services below are products and enhancements available to merchants that may require them.

ACH
ACH stands for Automated Clearing House. This service allows merchants to electronically debit customer's personal and business checking accounts. It will allow merchants to accept "Check by Phone" for one time payments or it can be coupled with Recurring Payments (below) to collect payments on a schedule, such as monthly, weekly, etc.
 
Recurring Payments
Recurring Payments is a special service that can be used with Credit and Debit Cards or with ACH services. This service allows the advance scheduling and automatic processing of payments on a particular day of the month or any other frequency.
 
Checks
Check services guarantee that a check is good and allows a merchant to convert a paper check to an electronic ACH transaction ensuring faster deposits and fewer trips to the bank. Check services are optional and may require additional hardware.
